Did you guys know that there is a guy that did the loop on a Sea-Doo?! I just learned this through talking to people on the water while doing this trip. You learn all kinds of things and meet all kinds of people on the water! Check him out on this link, https://cruisingodyssey.com/2022/09/14/mike-straub-completes-loop-on-sea-doo/.
First note, we are in between Canada and USA this weekend! As Bruce would say “we could throw an empty beer can and hit Canada from here.”
One item of note is we used the headsets for the first time docking this week. For anyone I have ever seen using these headsets and may have thought these were silly, I AM SORRY!!!! These truly are a “marriage saver” (as the dockhand told me). What a blessing to have Bruce in my ear calmly talking to me about our set up for docking. Whoever invited these are a genius!!!
Since I last blogged we have stopped at Rogers City, Harrisville, Harbor Beach and Port Huron, MI. These are all the cutest little towns, mostly with one stop light. My favorite so far as been Port Huron, MI where we stayed at Port Huron Yacht Club. A sailing town! Now, if you don’t know, Bruce taught me to sail boat race about 15 years ago. Sail boat skippers are some of the smartest people I have ever met. They may talk a big game about rum drinking and partying, but on the water they are constantly trying to predict the weather, wind and current. They are normally more correct than all of our meteorologists we know. I met Pam today, our yacht club contact, and she said “sure we take transient slip reservations”. She went on to tell me this yacht club was built and owned by the members. This was obvious when I went to settle up with her and she poured me a dark and stormy (the resident sailors drink…all around the world) and told me “we just do it all ourselves around here with no employees.” She also got 1st in a sailboat race today!
We also met a guy tonight that was retired from the coastguard. Now, I let him and Bruce go on and on about military talk…At some point I mention that I have been taking pictures of all of the lighthouses we have seen along the away of this trip and how some pictures have been so gorgeous with all of the sun rises and sunsets we have had with them in the background. I tell him how I plan to do something with all of these lighthouse pics some day and how amazing each and every one has been. He starts to take is shirt off (no not like that!) and shows me a meaningful tattoo to him he had of a lighthouse. Here is a photo:
You are meant to meet people for a reason.
Also just a great picture of the captain this week while I was on watch (uh..oh!)
And one we got of the boat!!
Go fast, turn left,
Lisa
