I know this is Lisa’s awesome blog, but I have been invited to do a post for St Paddy’s day – one of our most favorite times of the year. Historically, we have spent March 17th with many of our friends in Annapolis marching from McGarvey’s to the somewhere on West Stree. Some are still carrying on the tradition. Last year while we were homeless, we spent St Patrick’s day with Jordan and Kate Thurston in NC, just before heading to Wisconsin to start our journey. Great times!!
I am going to rewind and start where Lisa left off. We stopped in New Smyrna Beach for a day or two. Fun little town and we really enjoyed the great weather and scenery. This pelican pic is for mom-in-law, who could not stop talking about the pelicans during their visit and some pretty awesome sunset pics.
We stopped in St Augustine for three days – we luv this town. Very different from the last time we were here at Christmas last year. You could walk around with out running into five thousand other peeps – not kidding, super crowded at Christmas.
My only contribution from our time here is this creepy statue that was next to our table at dinner one night. Food was awesome! Harry’s Seafood on the water near the marina. Check out: https://hookedonharrys.com/
Now, St Patrick’s Day. We moved north to Amelia Island, Fernanda Beach. Next to Eau Gallie, probably one of the best stops in FL. Small town, lots of tourists, lots of super nice folks and lots of fun.
First stop, brunch. This Inn had the best bloody’s and bottomless mimosas. Some good eats for a start of a great day!
The locals here get a little crazy with this event.
Turns out there are other Green Turtles – MD folks will know what I am talking about. This place is great, good music and turtle artwork all over the place.
Some of my dearest friends and family remember Baltimore Brewing Company, Theo De Groen – master brewer. Definitely the best German beers I have ever had. Ran into this place, not a brewery, but import some very good beers from Germany. They had a Doppelbock that was really good and Lisa had a Dunkels that was also great. They only served German beer and wine.
After talking with the locals, they said to do cross streets and ally’s for the the best food and fun. So, we headed down a side street and found this little jewel. Bartenders were fun and they had key lime jello shots and fun drinks that were awesome. Turns out the front of the house was a normal bar/restaurant but the back was a duck pin bowling ally with an arcade upstairs. We took a little 30 minute break and tried it out…
Another side street, great music and chill atmosphere.
Can’t do a bar crawl day without a brewery. Nice place, food looked good, beer just OK.
Yet another side street place, tiny, always have live music and at night you can hear this place all over downtown.
Can’t pass up the oldest bar in FL. Place is huge, but your basic bar/restaurant – except, they had this awesome outside area with a band.
Last stop – this rooftop area with a view of the water and marina. And another pelican.
We rolled out on the 18th and headed to Jekyll Island, GA. Saw some wild horses (maybe mules) on the beach. Took this pick through a binocular with a pic of a sunset at Jekyll Island Marina.
Meade’s Heading North!
